KCP is definitely an effective program if you want to improve your Japanese and are willing to put in the time and effort that they expect. For those with some knowledge of Japanese already.

Charles from Summer Short 2016

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I liked the trip to Yamanashi the most. It provided a very different view of Japan compared to Tokyo. The village, shrine, and individual experiences were all very great to experience. I wish we could have had at least one more similar event.

What were your goals in attending the KCP program?

Expanding and improving on my Japanese, while experiencing the actual culture of Japan

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

Classtime was very productive, fast paced, and I learned a lot. The teachers were all excellent, and I know they really cared for each of their students. I didn't find anything very uninteresting. All aspects of the program were enjoyable or beneficial to me, in my opinion.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

Pair work was helpful in going at my own pace to make sure I understood what was being taught.

Were you pleased with the general living arrangements? Anything you especially liked? Any problems you experienced?

The (free) food was very delicious and helpful for my day. I also liked the shared bath a lot; I heard the other dorms did not have one. The dorm manager was helpful and always willing to strike up a small conversation. The travel time was a bit long, but nothing to complain about. The room was standard and I have no complaints with it. All in all very positive experience.

Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?

KCP is definitely an effective program if you want to improve your Japanese and are willing to put in the time and effort that they expect. For those with some knowledge of Japanese already, I highly recommend reviewing and preparing yourself so that you are knowledgable enough to be level2 or above!

Any other comments or suggestions?

Thank you for this opportunity to study in Japan. If I get another chance, I will definitely come back to continue expanding my Japanese.

Testimonials

Choosing KCP was largely to do with the ease of application. A lot of other summer courses required a lot of paperwork and recommendations and transcripts that are a big pain to gather. But KCP’s application process was very easy and self-explanatory! Also, the student life photos looked interesting!
